EXPLORE THE WILD HEART OF THE KAROO

Nature Conservation Sutherland

Volunteer in Nature Conservation – Sutherland, South Africa.

Step into the untamed beauty of the Karoo, where rugged landscapes and star-filled skies await. Based on a 20,000-hectare reserve on the Roggeveld Plateau, this experience offers a unique blend of nature conservation, wildlife care, and stargazing.

Volunteers join a passionate young team to gain practical skills in reserve management and eco-tourism. Help care for springboks, chickens, and ducks, maintain wildlife fences, and support the reserve’s solar-powered EcoVillage. You’ll also assist in welcoming guests and participate in wildlife tracking, erosion control, and invasive species removal.

The reserve is home to diverse wildlife, including two cheetahs, and ancient fossil sites. You’ll also enjoy a visit to SALT, Africa’s largest telescope.

Stay in a shared house on the reserve with private loft rooms, shared amenities, and daily lunch provided.

Experience remote wilderness, meaningful work, and unforgettable skies.
